Forest

The forest and its sounds

First time making a decent video of the Finnish nature, it was fun to learn new things, like recording the sounds of the forest.

Aurora

Rauhaniemi, Finland – 27 September 2019

I have the beautiful Näsijärvi lake with very nice views just in front of my house in Finland. During the winter months it is possible to go there and relax next to the lake while watching the northern lights. We took some warm tea, coffee and snacks, so that spending time in the cold would be more pleasant. This has been my first attempt to take a timelapse video, but I  am looking forward to take more in the future.

The Finnish word for northern lights – revontulet – translates as “fox fires”. The firefox – tulikettu – is a mythical and elusive creature of the north coveted by hunters. As it runs along the fells, the fox’s flaming tail whips crystals of snow into the sky and the fur scratches the trees, setting the skies on fire. There are many different legends about the northern lights, but this one is my favorite : )

Milky Way

Finland – 25 February 2020

We were willing to go stargazing some day and shoot some astrophotography pictures. We could drive far enough away in order to avoid the city’s light pollution as much as we could. We went to the same spot where we took the moon pictures some days before, which was also amazing. Then we only had to set up the timelapse and camera settings and leave it do its job for a while, which at that point was a nice option as it was cold outside so we could go inside the car and wait for the job to be done.
